The project objectives:

Design a book cover appropriate for a historical fiction novel which at the same time communicates the title as well as the authors name when seen as a thumbnail on ebook stores such as Amazon and Smashwords.

 

The solution:

To create a strong typographic treatment using a font which has calligraphic elements to help set a tone for the time period without compromising legibility or being too "olde tyme", combined with a rich color and stark black band to make the cover stand out in a list of thumbnails.

 

Follow up project is to design the second in the series of books, utilizing the same color scheme to visually communicate continuity.
